Colombia Aprende is the official digital education portal and knowledge network launched by the Colombian Ministry of Education. It serves as a central hub for students, teachers, and families, providing free access to high-quality digital resources, virtual courses, and interactive tools tailored for basic and secondary education.
The platform features a wide variety of tools designed to improve teaching and learning, including Digital Content Repositories.
Background Patterns
Patterns were created for the backgrounds of the graphic elements, emphasizing features typical of educational settings; these designs contrasted traditional elements with current technologies to highlight the portal's offering of digital educational content.
Icon System
Six icons were designed based on the educational portal's target audiences: primary and secondary school teachers, primary and secondary school students, families and the community, researchers, and higher education students and faculty.
These icons represent the profiles of visitors who use the portal; color palettes tailored to each audience were also used in their design.
Header
The educational portal's logo was given prominence to lend character and solidity to the site's visual identity. A three-level navigation system was implemented: 1. general navigation menu, 2. customizable search menu, and 3. navigation menu organized by areas of impact. The site access panel and the ministry logos have been retained. A block displaying the current date was added to show that the portal is updated daily.
Body
Five easily updatable zones were implemented to display featured content, along with an editorial news section featuring three highlighted items and an easy-to-navigate engagement area that includes an agenda. A unified design using the plus sign (+) was adopted so users would recognize that clicking this button expands the information for a given element.
The Facebook and Twitter widgets were retained to display the portal's social media activity, and two updatable dividers—"Portal Update" and "Social Portal"—were added to showcase key activities from the day or week.
Footer
A two-level navigation structure showcases the portal's features regarding navigation optimization, presence on social and educational networks, sitemap, navigation, usage, and contact and location details.
